Dear All: ALSALAM ALUKOM

 

A) At the begining, I like to point out that I, and all my family members are moslems and follow the rules of Allah and the Sonah of our profit Mohamed (PBUH). My wife and daughters are MOHAGABAT in spite of our long residence in the USA, and after my retirement I became very active in our local moslem community.

 

B) Islam is the fastest growing religion in the USA. This is the direct result of the constitutional requirement of the separation of religion from politics. Freedom of religion and beleife is guaranteed by the american constitution, Even those who are not beleivers are protected.

 

C) Since we are in the USA who came from many parts of the world carrying with us different religions such as Islam, Christianity (Protestant or Catholic), Judaism, Buddhism and atheists (non-beleivers)...etc, the fouding fathers of this country thought it will be difficult to follow one religion when it comes to governing.

 

D) Politics is the art of lying, deception, cover ups, saying as little as much when it comes to truth. How can you govern with the rules of any religions ?.

 

E) In Egypt, our constitution protects Islam to be  the source of our legislative laws and this must never be changed. In fact christianity and the christian people will see that it is the greatest protection to their beliefs. Islam, unlike the other religions, respects all  rules and rights of other leligion .

 

F) Separating politics from religion will guarantee freedom of religion and freedom of choice which are the basics of true democracy.

 

Again, this is my personal (I repeat personal) opinion. Looking around the world you find that most of the stable democracies do separate religion from politics.
